rouse

rouse
ROUSE, AROUSE
Глаголы rouse и arouse могут взаимозаменяться в значении 'разбудить' (особенно в пассивной конструкции): the sleeping man was roused (или aroused) by the ringing of the bell. Однако rouse, в отличие от arouse, обычно означает не только 'нарушить (прервать) сон', но 'заставить подняться' (ср. русск. разбудить и поднять с постели). Rouse и arouse могут употребляться с существительными, обозначающими эмоции; в этом случае arouse сочетается с одним (прямым) дополнением, a rouse – с двумя дополнениями (прямым и предложным): her words aroused my pity (compassion, sympathy, fear), но her words roused me to fury (anger).
